Transport for NSW is seeking feedback from road users, local businesses and the community on plans to widen a 300-metre stretch of Heathcote Road at Moorebank.
State Member for Holsworthy, Melanie Gibbons MP, said Transport for NSW is investigating her request for a future upgrade of Heathcote Road, including an additional two lanes between Junction Road and the M5 Motorway, and traffic lights at the Junction and Heathcote roads intersection.
“I have been raising this intersection with the Minister for Transport and Roads for some time – advocating for an upgrade – and I’m happy Transport for NSW are now investigating this request and conducting community consultation.” Ms Gibbons said.
Heathcote Road is a major thoroughfare which links Liverpool and Heathcote, connecting Sydney’s southern suburbs to the motorway network in the south-west including the M5 and M7 motorways.
Around 36,000 motorists use Heathcote Road every day, which can created bottlenecks along the major thoroughfare such as between Junction Road and the M5 Motorway.
Ms Gibbons said the plans in progress are to address this pinch point by widening the road to create two additional lanes and installing traffic lights at the Junction and Heathcote roads intersection.
“This would not only reduce congestion and provide safer access to and from Junction Road and the service road, it would also create consistency with the remaining Heathcote Road corridor between Holsworthy and Liverpool.” Ms Gibbons said.
Transport for NSW encourage you to send your feedback on the preferred option and design by emailing [email protected] or by calling 1800 271 117. You can also register your interest to attend an online information session about the preferred option.
Feedback received during consultation period will be considered and also documented in a consultation report to assist with the next steps of the project.
